From a blank page to a printed hardcover memoir, guided by AI
Uponlife is a consumer SaaS platform that turns a lifetime of memories into a finished, printed book. AI prompts ask the right questions, voice input replaces typing, and a hardcover memoir ships to the user's door for $79 to $89.

The Problem
Almost everyone says they want to preserve their life story for their kids and grandkids. Almost no one ever does. The blank page is intimidating, the project feels endless, and "someday" quietly becomes never.
The barrier is sharpest for the people with the most to share. Uponlife's core users are 60 to 80 years old. They have decades of memories, but typing on a keyboard for hours is uncomfortable, modern writing tools assume you already know what you want to say, and most digital products aren't designed with their eyesight, patience, or comfort level in mind.
And even when someone does write a manuscript, turning it into an actual, beautiful, printed hardcover book is a separate project most people never finish. The result: stories that should outlive a generation get lost instead.
Our Approach
We didn't set out to build another writing tool. We set out to remove every single reason a non-technical 70-year-old might give up. That meant treating AI as a co-writer, treating voice as the default input, and treating the printed book (not the software) as the product.
Replace the blank page with personalized AI prompts
After a short intake about the user's life, the platform generates prompts grounded in their own details: places they lived, family members, eras, careers. They never see an empty cursor; they see a specific question worth answering.
Replace typing with voice, designed for older users
Speech-to-text is the primary input, not a hidden setting. The UI uses large targets, generous type, and a single obvious action per screen so users in their 60s, 70s, and 80s can move forward without help.
AI as a co-writer, not a ghostwriter
The writing assistant shapes raw spoken thoughts into clean sentences in the user's own voice. It fixes grammar, suggests rewrites, and nudges users past stuck moments. It never invents a story the user didn't tell.
End-to-end fulfillment from prompt to hardcover
Photo upload, cover design tooling, and print-on-demand fulfillment are part of the same flow. The digital experience leads straight to a hardcover book delivered to the user's home, with optional audiobook, gift box, and extra-copy add-ons.
What we built
A consumer SaaS web platform that takes a user from "I should write this someday" to a finished printed book, without ever asking them to face a blank page.
AI Prompt Generator + in-line Writing Assistant
The platform asks targeted questions grounded in the user's own life details, then helps them write the answer. The in-line assistant rewrites awkward sentences, fixes grammar, and offers "what to say next" suggestions when the user gets stuck, all while keeping the user's voice intact.

Voice-first writing experience
Users speak their stories instead of typing them. Speech-to-text is built into every prompt, with simplified controls and accessible UI choices tuned for a 60 to 80 year-old audience: large buttons, high-contrast text, and one clear action per screen.

Photo upload, cover design, and print fulfillment
Users upload family photos directly into chapters, customize the book cover, and place a one-time order. From there the platform handles print-on-demand fulfillment of a full-color hardcover book delivered to the user's door, with optional audiobook, gift box, and extra-copy add-ons via Stripe.

The Outcome
Users never face an empty cursor. The platform asks specific, personal questions grounded in their own life, which removes the single biggest reason memoir projects get abandoned.
Voice-first input makes the platform usable by an audience that traditional writing software quietly excludes. People who would never have finished by typing are finishing by talking.
A consumer-friendly one-time price of $79 to $89 turns a decades-long intention into a finished, printed, shipped product, without the user ever having to manage a publishing project.
Why this matters for you
Uponlife is a template for a category of products that has barely been built yet: consumer SaaS where AI doesn't just generate output, it carries the cognitive load so a non-technical user can finish something they otherwise never would. If your product asks a user to face a blank page, a hard workflow, or a demographic that mainstream tools ignore, this is the playbook.
- Consumer SaaS founders building for older or non-technical users who get filtered out by mainstream UX.
- Any "blank page" product (writing, planning, design) where AI can replace the empty cursor with a specific next step the user just has to react to.
- Digital-to-physical businesses that need a clean handoff from software to print-on-demand fulfillment, with one-time payments instead of subscriptions.
